All of us in Balvihar, adults as well as children, are here to learn and grow spiritually. We realize that all Hindu scriptures are interpreted and understood in several different ways, so there may be slight discrepancies regarding how concepts are explained to the children in Balvihar versus at home. As parents, please be aware of this fact and explain it to the kids as needed.
Our classes encompass a large segment of Hindu culture, mythology and values. After regularly attending the Balvihar classes, children become knowledgeable about Hinduism, religion and God through the study of great epics, scriptures and mythology. They learn to chant many popular shlokas and sing Bhajans.
The Balvihar Curriculum has been carefully designed to cater to the needs of children of different age groups. Usually, the classes consist of two segments: Bhajans & Shlokas segment and the Text segment.
Following text is currently being studied by the children in four different groups:

NOTE: If any child in Group 1 and perhaps Group 2 does not have the maturity or the attention span to sit through the class, one parent is kindly requested to stay with the child throughout the class in order to mind the child and maintain the sanctity of the classroom and the Temple. Supplies
We hope to be more organized with our system so our classes run more efficiently and effectively. We kindly request that each Balvihar student has the following supplies:
Binders
In past years, kid's binders have been so out of order therefore, prayers are easily lost. This creates extra work for teachers and mothers. To fix this inconvenience, since 2013 we will have all prayers and papers organized in binders. Kids, it is your responsibility to make sure your binder is in order, with the “Table of Contents”, tabs, and respective papers. If you need any further information or materials relating to the Balvihar binders, please contact us at amarillomandir@gmail.com.
Fee for Balvihar participation
Participation in Balvihar classes is open to all, $50 per child per semester.
Please note that, collected funds will be utilized by the Balvihar committee for the purpose of purchasing children’s awards, end of the year party or other related activities.
Volunteers needed for the Balvihar classes
The Hindu Temple of Amarillo is pleased to announce that we will be working towards establishing and growing Balvihar for children ages 3-12. However, in order to provide our children with the same level of teaching and guidance that is currently available to children in many other cities across the United States, we must mobilize a number of committed, selfless and devoted individuals whose main focus and interest is the inculcation of this sacred value-system in our younger generation. We need volunteers who are willing to:
1. Learn and love to teach children.
2. Commit time (a few hours a week).
3. Possess some basic proficiency in recitation of Sanskrit hymns and chants. (Language knowledge is not needed)
4. Take pride in our culture and traditions.
